Gaganyaan Mission: India's First Human Spaceflight Mission

Gaganyaan is the name of India's first human spaceflight mission. Its construction is being overseen by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), and its launching is scheduled for the year 2024. For the purpose of the trip, three astronauts will be dispatched, and they will stay in Earth's orbit for seven days.

The main objectives of the Gaganyaan Mission are to:

  • Demonstrate India's human spaceflight capability
  • Conduct scientific experiments in space
  • Inspire the next generation of Indian scientists and engineers

The Gaganyaan Mission is divided into three phases:

  • Phase 1:Development of the spacecraft and launch vehicle
  • Phase 2:Training of astronauts and ground personnel
  • Phase 3:Launch of the mission and return of the astronauts

Phase 1: is now underway and should be finished by 2023. Phase 2 will start in 2024 and run for a full year. Phase 3 will start in 2025 and include the mission's launch and the astronauts' return.

The spacecraft for the Gaganyaan Mission is called the Gaganyaan Orbital Module (GOM). The propulsion, service, and crew modules comprise the three sections of the spaceship. The crew module, which will house the astronauts, will also contain all the equipment needed for life support. The service module will contain the attitude control, communication, and power systems for the spaceship. The propulsion module will contain the spacecraft's engines.

The launch vehicle for the Gaganyaan Mission is known as the GSLV Mark III.This heavy-lift launch vehicle, which consists of three stages, can propel payloads up to 4,000 kg into low-Earth orbit.

The Indian Air Force is the source of potential astronauts for the Gaganyaan Mission. The astronauts that are chosen will go through extensive training covering every facet of human spaceflight, such as emergency protocols, spacewalks, and spacecraft operations.

The Gaganyaan Mission, India's First Human Spaceflight Mission stands as a monumental endeavour with the dual objectives of expanding India's presence on the global space stage and igniting a sense of inspiration among the upcoming generation of engineers and scientists.
